During the year 1842, Inventor Jerome Increase Case founded Case in Racine. He started building threshing machinery. The business later gained international recognition as the first maker of steam engines for its agricultural application. By 1912, Case had become established in the construction equipment industry. The quickly started to produce road building machinery like steam rollers and graders. Case grew their construction equipment company through different acquisitions, starting with the American Tractor Corporation during 1957. Case had expanded their business by the middle part of the 1990s to become the leading manufacturer of medium-sized to light-sized construction machinery.
In 1999, Case merged with New Holland to become CNH Global. This corporation became responsible for marketing some of the globe's leading brands of construction and agricultural machinery.
