For the utilization of lift trucks, there are some safety and health rules governing their utilization. Forklifts are big industrial equipment that could be dangerous and need to be handled with safety in mind. The regulations and rules state that the driver must perform daily inspections on the forklift and more thorough inspections on a weekly basis and on a monthly basis. The following inspections must be carried out on the forklift:
Lift Truck Brakes - brakes on forklifts are important features that should be double and triple checked. A brake inspection is performed with various pressures and pedal heights to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights must be inspected at the same time.
The Tires - lift truck tires are also important for the safe performance of the lift truck and to the braking system. All the tires must be inspected correctly to ensure that there are no punctures in the tires and they are inflated to the proper pressure.
Controller - In order to know whether the system is in good working condition, the forklift controller system has to be checked by operating the forks and the release mechanism. Any indication of issues must immediately reported and tended to. The lift truck should not be utilized until the controller system has been fixed.
Steering Wheel - the driver must check the lift truck steering wheel in order to make sure the turning of the wheel is correct. Lift truck safety depends upon the steering wheel responding well and functioning precisely. There are a variety of inspections which could be done to determine steering wheel performance.
Engine Oil - the engine oil has to be inspected by removing the dip stick from the forklift engine. The dipstick will show both the level of the oil and the colour of the oil. The oil must be refilled if the level is too low. If the colour is off, there might be contamination occurring.
Fire Extinguisher - all forklift trucks are required to be equipped with a fire extinguisher. The extinguisher needs to be tested to ensure it will function correctly in the event of a fire. Different types of fire extinguisher has to be inspected in certain ways. Like for example, a dry chemical extinguisher must be shaken.
