Lift Truck Components in More Detail
There are hundreds of components that make up a lift truck. The lift truck's main parts comprise the truck frame, the engine parts, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. In addition, a forklift consists of different kinds of attachments. All the parts making up a forklift are all essential since they work together to make the operation of the machine possible. The next paragraphs describe several of the lift truck components in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the lift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the machine operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck would harm the driver or damage the controls inside the cab. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on various models.
The Mast - Mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle, the mast is the vertical lift truck component made of interlocking rails. The mast enables the forks to move upwards and downwards while providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails can either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast may be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the part which the forks and other types of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly connected to the hydraulic cylinder and is connected by chains. To enable the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage can have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - There are numerous kinds of attachments that could be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common attachment. What's more, there are rollers, rotators, L-shaped members, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These various kinds of attachments are really useful for transporting different kinds of loads.
