Manitou Forklifts New Hampshire
In order to lessen forklift maintenance, regular inspections can help you save significantly over the long haul use of your machine. The standing joke in the industry is a forklift technician coining the saying "Pay me now, or pay me later," because it generally costs more to procrastinate when it comes to forklifts. For example, the minor fixes which go unrepaired can eventually turn into costly repairs.
Tilt Cylinders
If they are left unchecked, oil leaks are a really serious concerns. On a regular basis, the machine must be checked for oil leaks and/or damage. Oil leaks can result in really dangerous uncontrolled movement of the mast. Whether the leaks are in the cylinder or outside, the end result can lead to cylinder drift and loss of vital fluid. When damage or leaks are detected, you normally would have to replace the whole cylinder assembly or the seals.
Chains
Be sure to pay attention since you don't want mast lift chains to stretch beyond acceptable limits. Watch carefully for any indications of damage or wear and tear. Check regularly with a chain wear gauge so as to monitor the wear. If the chain is rusted or worn beyond 2%, you must replace the chain. Following these guidelines will help keep your equipment running optimally.
Mast
When utilizing the lift control lever, the mast needs to be moved up and down smoothly, making sure to check if the mast is moving smoothly forwards and backwards. You may need to lubricate the mast strip sliding surfaces if the sliding surfaces are binding. Lubricate their fittings too, since there is a fitting located on either side of the inner mast. The lift bracket side rollers are another lubrication spot.
Forks
The blades have to be inspected for wear, cracks and damage because worn or cracked forks can fail with out any warnings. Of course, any damaged fork means immediately taking the truck out of service. If the cracks are deeper than just on the surface, they have to be replaced since they really can't be safely repaired.
